Good Morning to Yu All!
One of my very favorite songs is John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery.” It is a song from a woman’s voice as she talks about her life – her dreams – and how it all turns out. My favorite line is the very first – “I am an old woman……named after my mother. My old man is another child who’s grown old. If dreams were lightning and thunder were desire, this old house would have burnt down a long time ago.” What this song says to me is that we just don’t know what our life will bring. Sometimes the path takes us to places we never imagined. Sometimes we never arrive at the place we wanted to go. Yet life goes on. And we are named after our mother. And somehow, someway, we find the way. We find it because she found hers and is leading us on.
Tomorrow is Mother’s Day. And we will honor our mothers. As a matter of fact, we will honor all women! And we will talk about what it means to share our story….to give a reason for the hope that we have as we live our lives. Our hope is in the Lord. But we have learned about that hope through the loving arms of the one who raised us, who protected us, who provided for us, the one who wiped the smudge from our face and told us to go out and face the world with love. Our scripture will be I Peter 3:13-22. Just like our mothers told us to go out and live in the world authentically and freely, Peter tells the church to go out and live in the world sharing the story of Jesus. Hope you will be there!
WE WILL RECEIVE THE WESEY WOODS MOTHER’S DAY OFFERING TOMORROW AND NEXT SUNDAY. PLEASE COME PREPARED TO GIVE GENEROUSLY TO THIS WONDERFUL MINISTRY OF OUR CHURCH.

Martha
