Hey Everybody!
I am so glad it is Friday. I am glad because that means this week is finally over. I have been sick all week. I’ve had this naggy sinus infection. Yuck! I hate sinus infections! What a pain!!! You know what it feels like, don’t you? Your brain keeps telling you to get up; to clean the kitchen, to do a load of laundry, to go for a walk, to go to the store, to go……. And that is the problem: in order to go you have to get up off the couch or out of the bed. And when you are sick, getting up is a big deal. Your brain says yes. Your body says no.
Why is it that we do that, do you think? Why do we tend to feel guilty when we get sick? Why do we waste our precious healing time? I think we would give ourselves a wonderful gift if we simply allowed ourselves when we are ill or even when we are just tired and weary, to stop, to do nothing. Instead, if we allowed ourselves to simply let the day move around us. Let the clouds cross the sky. Let the geese fly high above. Let the rivers flow. Let the dandelions grow. Let the sound from another room of the voice of one we love comfort us, cover us with warmth and fill us with a huge sigh. Just let it be. The world is not going to end. The things that I thought were so important and that no one else could do……. I’ve already forgotten about what they were.
So I am talking to myself as well as you……. It is all right to stop, y’all….it is all right to rest. Rest is a blessing from God. It renews us and calms us and prepares us for the joy of living and serving and living an honest and authentic life that is pleasing to God. It prepares us for moments of bravery and goodness. Rest is essential to living.
So, I don’t want anyone to get sick. But, if you do, (well, when you do), don’t fret. Just stay right there on the couch. Those pajama bottoms are perfect! Take care of yourself and know that all is well. The world will see you on the other side!
And I will see you Sunday! Come for Sunday School and all you ever wanted to know about Zephaniah and Haggai.
Bring your Peanut Butter to dedicate in worship.
Hear a sermon about Simon’s terrible and wonderful morning…
And stay for a meal and a really fun study on our Spiritual Gifts.
Love you all!
Please pray for me as I pray for you!
